EU implements new energy label for household appliances in 2011

On November 30, 2010, the European Commission adopted the "Commission's Regulations (EU) 1060/2010", which supplements the provisions of the "2010/30/EU Directive" concerning the labelling of domestic refrigeration appliances.

The new label will provide consumers with relevant information to help them evaluate frozen appliances based on factors such as energy efficiency, energy consumption, storage capacity, and noise emissions. The regulations came into effect on December 20, 2010 and began implementation on November 30, 2011.

I. REGULATORY SCOPE The “(EU) 1060/2010 Regulations” stipulate the following requirements for the development of labels and additional information for electric-powered household refrigerators:

l storage capacity of 10 to 1500 liters;

l Sale for non-domestic use;

l Used as a non-food frozen appliance;

l can also be battery-powered appliances.

Second, Exempt

l Mainly non-electric energy-driven refrigeration appliances such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), kerosene and biodiesel;

l Battery-driven, but also through the purchase of AC / DC (AC / DC) converters connected to the main power of the refrigeration appliance;

l One-time special custom-made refrigeration appliances that are different from other chiller appliance models;

l Refrigeration appliances used by the service industry to extract frozen food by electronic induction, and at the same time can connect the data through the network and automatically transmit it to the remote control system for statistical purposes;

l Electric appliances that are not primarily used for frozen food storage, such as stand-alone ice machines or frozen drinks machines.

Third, the main requirements of "(EU) 1060/2010 regulations" specify:

l The unified design and content of household refrigeration appliance labels,

l Requirements for product leaflets and technical documentation for domestic refrigeration appliances,

l Advertising and technical promotional materials contain provisions of the Energy Efficiency Class and l must provide relevant information provided by end users (such as remote sales) who are unable to see the display product in person.

Fourth, the implementation date from November 30, 2011: labels, product leaflets and technical documents;

From March 30, 2012: Advertising and technical promotional materials need to include energy efficiency levels; and information about non-displayed products.

V. Level of energy efficiency A new level ("2003/66/EC Directive" and "94/2/EC Directive") was added above the original A++ level (class A++), as follows:

Remarks:

This regulation does not exempt the requirements of the (EU) 643/2009 Regulations on the ecological design of domestic refrigeration appliances.

Domestic refrigeration appliances labelled according to the (EU) Regulation No. 1060/2010 will be deemed to comply with the "94/2/EC Directive" as amended by Directive 2003/66/EC. The "94/2/EC Directive" will be repealed on November 30, 2011.
