Secret: toilet odor is empty drum tile

Although the wooden floor is booming in the past two years, ceramic tiles are still indispensable in home decoration, especially in functional spaces such as the living room and restaurants. Most people still choose to install floor tiles and wall tiles. However, the hollowing of the tiles is very annoying.

â–  Phenomenon: Empty tiles, small problems cause big trouble

If there is an empty drum tile, it will easily loosen, fall off, crack, etc., and it will also have potential safety hazards. If you drill a hole in an empty drum, this tile is also very easy to break.

Mr. Zhang Jian, director of the home-based engineering department of Jutaron, believes that kitchens, especially kitchen floors, cannot be hollowed out. He said of such an example: "A friend who has a bathroom at home has a bad smell even if he cleans it up. After checking the toilet, he checked the floor drain and the sewer. There was no problem. Later I went to see if I saw it. A brick has empty drums, because kitchen and toilet floors often come into contact with water, and water penetrates through the brick seams and accumulates under the bricks.Since the tiles have been waterproofed under the tiles, the water will accumulate under the bricks for a long time. Dead water and finally odor. This is one of the reasons why there are always odors in many bathrooms and kitchens."

â–  Reason: It may be that the glazed tile is not soaked for a long time

Tile hollowing mainly has the following reasons:

Priming plaster is not standard. Before the tile is applied, the wall base debris and dust must be removed. When laying, the back of the tile should be filled with cement mortar or 107 grout. Tap the tile with a hammer handle or a soft hammer to make the grout filled with the back of the tile. Press firmly to firmly bond the tiles to the wall base. If the base plaster is not standard, it will cause hollowing.

Soaking is not enough before laying. Tiles (especially glazed tiles) should be soaked in water for 2 hours or more before the tiles are applied. After the tiles are fully absorbed, remove the shade or clean the water. If the bricks are not saturated with water, the moisture in the mortar will be absorbed prematurely, resulting in hollowing of the mortar and affecting the adhesive strength.

The mortar is not full when applied. The tiles are not full or tiled and tapped to compact. This situation may be cutting corners, in order to save cement mortar, or to save time and sloppy.

â–  Test: Click "5 points" to see if empty

Hollow detection method is actually very simple, find a metal item (the best tool is drill bit or key drill on the site, small stainless steel spoon can also), use it to hit the four corners and core parts of the tile. If there are more than two points emitting an "empty" sound, then this piece of tile has been mislaid. But it is important to note that the kitchen flue and the tiles on the walls that are covered with cement boards cannot be used for this type of inspection because the walls themselves are not solid, so how to knock is also the sound of empty drums.
