Styrofoam is useful for molding polystyrene beads. These plastic products are bulky and have a large amount of tuition and fees, and their recycling has received special attention in China.

The main ways to recycle polystyrene foam are: granulation after volume reduction, pulverization for various filling materials, cracking to oil or recycling of styrene and others.

(1) Granulation after volume reduction, polystyrene foam can be melt-extruded and granulated to produce recycled pellets, but it is bulky and transported by stool, and it is usually required to reduce volume before recycling. The methods are mechanical, solvent and heating.

3 bromination of brominated polystyrene flame retardant, using aluminum chloride as a catalyst, the waste polystyrene and bromine undergo electrophilic substitution reaction to obtain brominated polystyrene, the bromine content can reach 60% to 70 %, a flame retardant for thermoplastics such as PET, aBS, and nylon. Brominated polystyrene is cheap, has good flame retardant effect and thermal stability, and can have obvious flame retardant effect when used in 5 parts (mass). Used in combination with antimony trioxide, it has a good synergistic effect of flame retardant.
