Furniture revisited "trade-in"

The furniture can be replaced with old ones. Recently, Yitong International Home revealed that it will launch a “trade-in” campaign for furniture, once again pushing this two-year-long topic to the front. Two years ago, at the beginning of 2012, the Ministry of Commerce and the Beijing Municipal Commission of Commerce successively stated that they wanted to promote the "trade-in" policy for furniture. For a time, the major furniture stores scrambled to launch the "trade-in" campaign to boost the market. However, as the policy was not rolled out, the vigorous "trade-in" campaign eventually ended.

Two years later, the news that “Union International Home Furnishing” will launch “trade-in” will come out. Questions will follow. Is this event just a “head grab” gimmick? Or will it become a valuable market exploration?

Unlike the trend of "swapping for new" two years ago, the "swapping for new" launched by Unido International is actually the concept of "furniture preservation". The relevant person in charge said: "The homes we sell at the premises are high-end solid wood furniture, and many of the wood used does have value preservation space." Yitong International Household also promises to consumers that as a chain company with 781 stores across the country, Yitong International Home Furnishing can guarantee the fulfillment of the promise, and the promise of "trade-in" will also be written into the contract. "We hope this activity can meet consumers' demand for replacement furniture."

Two years ago, when furniture “trade-in” first entered the public eye, it used an activity procedure similar to “trade-in” for household appliances. That is to say, when consumers buy new furniture, they can hand over the old furniture to the merchants and receive a certain percentage of recycling subsidies. This approach is unsustainable because it increases the costs of recycling, warehousing, regeneration, and destruction of businesses.

Relevant person in charge of Yitong International Home Furnishing revealed that this “trade-in” campaign is not intended to be launched for a long time. Only customers who spend in Yitong International Home Furnishing during the celebration can get this value-added service. Industry insiders believe that the country does not have the support of relevant subsidy policies, and it is more difficult to promote the "trade-in" of furniture on a large scale.
